Check out this group… beautiful people coming to learn about our food systems and how to incorporate more raw food in their diets. I’m inspired by how many people are taking matters into their own hands to learn about healthy food choices. This is the kind of information that comes from self-education, research and mixing with kindred spirits.
One of the participants asked me at the end of our class how to manage the time it takes to continuously have fresh fruits and vegetables available. Of course, there are practical tips like making it a point to go shopping 2 times a week, put it on your to-do list for Wednesdays and Sundays. Or you could have Amazon or a local farmer (CSA) deliver fresh veggies to your door. But what I’ve found is that you have to have a strong desire or good intentions will fall by the wayside. You have to love yourself so much that you make it a priority. As I tell people in my class, most of us have two voices. The voice that tries to talk us into getting something convenient or the voice that says we are worth the time and money it takes to feed ourselves properly. Which one do we listen to?
I like how Jim Rohn explains ‘The day Your Life changes.’ He said it’s a four part process and I’ve found this to be true for myself. 1) You’ve got to have disgust. For me, once I finally allowed myself to be disgusted by our food system, the pink slime, the added hormones and antibiotics, the toxic chemicals and the cruelty to animals (just to name a few) I knew I had started my journey. 2) You’ve got to have desire. Unfortunately, for a lot of people this only comes when they face a health crisis. In my case, I had the desire to live my values of compassion and kindness. It started with animals and expanded out to myself, other people and our environment. 3) You’ve got to make a decision. A decision isn’t something you do part of the time. It’s full-time. When I went vegan it wasn’t just when it was convenient. I made a decision I wouldn’t eat animal products of any kind and I haven’t since the day I decided. 4) You’ve gotta have resolve. Find a way to do whatever it takes to do it.
The more we love ourselves, the more it extends out to others. Call me crazy, but now, before these groups come in, I set an intention and write a note. Something like ‘may all who join this class be happy and well.’ I tape it under the table and watch the magic happen!
