Maybe that’s why I love to watch dancers. You can tell when someone is in complete control of himself. Watch speakers who have charisma; the ones who draw you in like a magnet. They intuitively know when to use big gestures, when to move around on the stage, when to speed up and slow down their speaking pace.
They’re controlling space with movement and gestures. They’re controlling time with pauses and rate of speech. It feels good to be in their company. Who says we can’t control time and space!
Remember the last time you listened to someone who felt out of control? Maybe they talked too long. Maybe there was no pause between words. Or maybe they had distracting hand gestures. These varying degrees of being in charge of your own space all register with your audience.
One of my last clients realized how her inability to stop and pause was affecting her business. She’s now making a difference in the world by drawing people toward her rather than pushing them away. If you’re struggling to move forward, it might be an easy fix. A coach can help you see blind spots.
