Communicating with Children about Food Choices

Last week my parents and twin nephews were in town from MN. One of the stops we made was to Precious Life Animal Sanctuary in Sequim, WA. Since I teach communication skills I’m always curious how we talk about food choices, especially to children.

How did you learn what bacon was?

What was your reaction?

James Redfield, author of Celestine Prophecy and The Twelfth Insight says the most important thing for us to do now and as we move closer to 2012 is to simply tell the truth.

I saw a movie recently where the strange uncle who came to town and told his nephew everything his mother had been trying to hide from him. Things about his dad that everyone thought would be too painful for the kid to take. I can understand the mother wanting to protect her son, not wanting anything to upset him. But the thing that helped positive change happen was the uncle, desperate for freedom, exposing the truth.

I’d love to hear your comments about how to talk with children about food choices.
