One of the greatest comments I hear at the end of these classes is when a participant says they feel it’s doable. This has happened a couple times and it always makes me feel like my time has been well-spent.
Focussing on what we can do rather than what we can’t do is one of the most empowering actions we can take. It increases our circle of influence and we have more respect for ourselves. And then for others.
I’ve been in situations, for example, when the room is too hot and there’s nothing I can do to change the temperature. The windows are locked and I can’t get air flow. This can bring up a feeling of claustrophobia for me – my heart beats a little faster. Today I thought, next time this happens, I’ll bring a bowl of ice and have cool towels for anyone who has the same feeling as me and wants to cool down. I immediately felt more in control and not the victim of circumstances.
It can be easy to get overwhelmed to know how GMOs, hormones, chemicals and artificial substances are being added to our food on such a mass scale. Awareness is a good thing. Awareness in one area (such as food choices) affects awareness in other areas of our lives. In my classes we talk about factory farming, cruel practices to animals, impacts of unhealthy eating on our personal health and the health of the planet. We touch on this and then dive right into what we CAN do. When someone leaves telling me that sprouting lentils, soaking nuts and making dressings made from whole, plant-based food is doable I feel hopeful and inspired. It’s contagious. When one person wakes up, takes responsibility and makes necessary changes it increases the tipping point of a healthy planet for everyone.
