I was meandering down the aisles of Whole Foods and came across Sharon’s book
. Flipping it open to a couple different paragraphs, I resonated with her style immediately. Her love for animals and people comes pouring out of the pages as she writes about the connection between what we eat, doing the least harm and karma. I tucked the colorful book in my shopping cart like I had just found a new best friend.
Sharon reveals in the introduction that she developed her yoga practice as a platform to speak up for animals. I found that inspiring and helpful in my own journey of blending communication training with a desire to help animals. This book is a beautiful blend of everyday spirituality and the compassion we can cultivate every time we sit down to eat a meal. Where some books get overly detailed about facts, Sharon Gannon breaks down the effects of animal consumption in a simple, easy to understand way with icons that help the visual learner connect with the words.
Sharon shines a light on breaking away from mindless obedience to authority and what’s been done in the past to a newfound freedom of thinking and feeling for ourselves. She helps us ponder what makes sense for us today.
I was pleasantly surprised by the added information in the appendix. Appendix 1 is frequently asked questions and examples of how you might respond. Appendix 2 is a simple 21 day cleanse diet with a list of staples to keep in your kitchen. Appendix 3 is Yoga on the mat which gives simple postures for each chakra with intentions how to resolve past relationships and move forward. It’s a great resource to have on hand in these changing times. I’m glad I found this book and highly recommend
