The Unbearable Feelings of Watching Others Suffer

Someone very close to me has been throwing up all day because of chemo.

My dog’s knee went out of place. She cries and drags herself around unable to use her right hind leg.

I imagine you too have witnessed people and animals you love suffer while there’s nothing you can do for them. That’s my definition of hell.

Today, after manipulating my dog’s knee back in place, we went for a walk and she looked like the happiest dog on the planet. Running in circles around me, rolling in the grass on this sunny fall day and eating extra helpings of food from a good day of exercise. I felt like I was in… heaven. That could be how God (or the natural divine) intelligence feels when we are happy.

Is suffering man-made? The more I contemplate my life, the more I realize it’s the natural things that make me feel good. Organic clothing, unadulterated food, and fresh air coming in my bedroom window all night long. Yes, I love having a roof over my head and a car to drive, but there are other money-driven, man-made things that cause pain. My Boston terrier and other purebred dogs are genetically modified causing them pain with hip dysplasia, breathing and heart problems to name a few. Chemical intervention on large scale farming operations are proving to wreak havoc on our health. GMO has been said to stand for God Move Over. How can we think our ego-made methods are superior to the divine intelligence of nature?

Making choices that support nature make me feel better and hopefully I’ll be less of a burden on others and our earth. Quite the opposite of being selfish, learning to take better care of myself is my top priority. What are some other ways you’ve gotten back to the natural order?
